Frequently Asked Questions
What is a tincture?
A tincture is a liquid extract of a plant, often into high-proof spirits, taken orally. When making a tincture, plant matter is macerated and suspended in a menstruum, or solvent, in order to draw out the pharmacologically active components of the plant. Although high-proof spirits are commonly used as a menstruum, glycerin and vinegar can be used as well.
Why do people take tinctures?
There are so many reasons! One is that tinctures are useful as a lower by-volume dosage of herbal plants, compared to other preparations like tea. When taken by mouth, tinctures enter the bloodstream relatively quickly.
how much of your tinctures should i take?
Tinctures are taken in drop dosages, by the dropperful or by the teaspoon. We share suggested dosages on the back of each tincture bottle. To take a “dropperful,” squeeze the rubber bulb on the top of your dropper bottle until full, then empty the contents directly into your mouth. If you prefer, you may also squeeze the contents into a glass of water or juice.
How much tincture is in one dropperful?
A dropperful is between 15 - 20 drops, or 1 mL, of tincture. One teaspoon is about 5 mL of tincture.
What is a flower essence?
Flower essences are subtle vibrational preparations made from infusing spring water with flowers, on a clear day or under a moonlit sky. This water (called the Mother) is combined with brandy for preservation and the resulting solution, the flower essence.
