What you can expect in your apothecary share
With each share of Olamina Botanicals’ 2024-2025 Community Supported Apothecary, you’ll receive a box of 5 herbal formulas made from herbs our founder Jess Turner grows and forages, alongside a zine she’s written to guide you through the plants peaking at each moment in the season, with suggested uses of each blend.
Depending on the time of year, plants’ medicinal powers are concentrated in their roots, bark, buds, leaves, stalks, flowers, seeds or berries. Jess will harvest the appropriate parts of each herb to take advantage of the healing they offer as they live out their life cycle. The formulas she makes will then speak to the areas in which our bodies need support in Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.
Summer is a time when we harvest flowers and leafy plant material, so your June 2024 share may include:
Cooling Skin Cream featuring Calendula officinalis, Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum) and Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)-infused Sunflower seed oil and Aloe Vera gel
Shiso (Perilla frutescens var. crispa) and Peach (Prunus persica) leaf glycerite for regulating histamine response
Electrolyte-rich Sumac (Rhus typhina) berry and Nettle (Urtica dioica) leaf tea blend
Milky Oat (Avena sativa) and Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora) Nervous System Tonic
Olamina Botanicals’ First Aid Spray
In summer, plants are focused on reproduction. They make flowers and pollen, fully leafing out to absorb as much sunlight as possible.
Fall is the season when we harvest roots, mushrooms, seeds and berries, so your September 2024 share may include:
Tummy Tea made from Marshmallow (Althea officinalis) root, Plantain (Plantago sp.) leaf and Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa) flowers
Olamina Botanicals’ Sweet Dreams tincture
Immunity-Supporting Oxymel made from warming, diaphoretic herb-infused organic apple cider vinegar
Pain-Relief Liniment featuring Ground Elder (Aegopodium podagragria), Goldenrod (Solidago sp.) and Cayenne (Capsicum anuum)
Olamina Botanicals’ Wild Bitters formula
In Fall, plants begin to send their energy back into the ground and produce the seeds that will become the next generation. Fungi release their spores into moist, cool air.
Winter is the time when we rest, plan and harvest the wisdom of the year, so your December 2024 share may include:
Warming Lung Tea, blended with Elecampane (Inula helenium) root, Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa) flowers, Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) leaf and Marshmallow (Althea officinalis) leaf
Hawthorn (Crataegus sp.) berry, Multiflora Rose (R. multiflora) and Rosehip (Rosa damascena) Heart-Lifting Elixir
Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum), Ginger (Zingiber officinale), Thyme (Thymus officinale) and Horehound (Marrubium vulgare) respiratory syrup
Chickweed (Stellaria media), Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum) and St. John’s Wort (Hypericum sp.) Dry Skin Salve
Lacto-Fermented Hot Sauce
Winter is the time of stillness and dormancy. Perennials sleep. Seeds utilize various strategies to disperse themselves by the wind, land and waters.
Spring is the season when we harvest barks, buds, shoots and early leaves, so your March 2025 share may include:
A mineral-rich Chickweed (S. media), Cleavers (Gallium aparine), Nettle (U. dioica) and Rosehip (R. damascena) vinegar to nourish the body through the transition to spring
Lymph Oil made from Violet (Viola sp.) leaf, Clover (Trifolium pratense) flower and Burdock (Arctium lappa) seed-infused Sunflower seed oil
Energizing Seasoning Salt blended with Nettle (U. dioica) seed, Turmeric (Curcuma longa) and Wild Carrot (Daucus carota) seed
Welcome Spring Tea made from Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Oat Tops (Avena sativa), Pericón (Tagetes lucida)
Achey muscle salve crafted with Populus bud-infused New York state Sunflower seed oil and beeswax
In the spring, plants are waking up from the winter, their seeds absorbing clues that the time is right to germinate. Shoots push up from the soil. Trees bud out, their sap beginning to run again. The energy perennials have stored in their roots moves above ground.
