Learning how to grow our own food is not only delicious, it helps us feel empowered, strengthening our connection to the seasons, the elements and other forms of life on the planet. There is even evidence that soil microbes increase serotonin levels in the brain. But it’s almost August—what can you possibly grow right now? Plenty.
Jess Turner, an herbalist, urban farmer and gardener will share her journey from the labor movement to the plant world, and tips on how to start growing a garden that will produce food and medicine from now until winter. Attendees will take home their own therapeutic soil mix and seeds for “quick-victory” crops they can be eating by month’s end.
